Jan. 18th, 2019

Hosted by BRAWL, The Barber, and co-hosted by Racquel Johnson with DJ Excel on the ones and twos

Inspired by the 1988 classic Eddie Murphy comedy film of the same name, Coming To America, this edition of The Short Kuts Show live storytelling experience, the first show of its 2019 season at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, took an insightful look into the immigration experiences of a group of Afro-diasporic immigrant community members of various backgrounds and their personal journeys to the United States of America including; Liberian-American educator Nicole Stewart, South African-American educator M. Andrew Motaung, Guyanese-American social entrepreneur Karen James Cody, American/Kenyan educator Kiragu Beauttah, Jamaican-American Librarian Ann-Marie Harvey, and Nigerian-American educator Seun Joshua sharing the true stories on their experiences of coming to America.

FAMILY:   As the pandemic persists, The Short Kuts Show Narrative Therapy Initiative ~&~ Live Storytelling Experience is also persisting in its efforts in creating individual and village uplift with storytelling coupled with therapeutic practices--“narrative therapy” (or “thairapy”, as The Short Kuts Show is a storytelling project inspired by/paying homage to the hair-chair therapists of the Black American barber/beauty shop--its barbers and stylists), as we call it--positively impacting the community.
